It's about damn time. Aug 04, 2007

"Music Snob"
For those of you who bought Lyle Lovett's 1999 "Live in Texas" CD and wondered to yourself "Wow this is such a great performance, I wish they would have put it out on DVD". Well I'm pretty sure that this is it. A lot of the performances that were on "Live in Texas" appear here on this DVD...eight years later. The versions of "You Can't Resist it", and "North Dakota" are completely Identical to the versions on "Live in Texas". At a reasonable price of under $15.00, I cannot think of a better recommendation to Lyle fans. As for curious people who have yet to discover Lyle's music, this is a very good summary. The Large Band is very tight, there is not a missed note played. Plus Rickie Lee Jones' accompanying vocals on "North Dakota", is breathtaking. This is a good one to grab.

For the Lyle Lovett fan Sep 07, 2007
By Angela Crane If you love Lyle, you'll love this DVD! The big band is absolutely amazing! His voice compares to no other and his band compliments him perfectly. You must sit down and really watch and listen to every moment.

The Lyle Lovett Primer Mar 19, 2008
By Gerald Robertson

For those of you who always write Lyle off as country and western, check this video out. While he does C&W very well, his large band is a tour de force of swing and jazz. Lyle Lovett really can't be pigeon holed into one class or another, he's too diverse. This video bears that out. To his credit, he always recognizes the talent that he plays with, too. Just listen to Francine Reed on this DVD, and you'll become a fan of hers as well. I've seen Lyle with his large band, during his Texas songwriter tribute, with John Hiatt, Guy Clark and Joe Ely, and most recently with John Hiatt and himself sharing an acoustic evening. ALWAYS a memorable show, and this DVD spotlights just one of Lyle Lovett's many facets. Good straightforward camera work and very good sound make this "concert" one for my library.

Hold Me Down!!! Apr 02, 2009

Best of Lyle Lovett Live - a master song writer with all the right crew surrounding him. As a long-time fan down in good 'ole New Zealand I've considered Lovett's writing and delivery to be well above the average. My personal favorite period is from his early stuff thru Pontiac, "and His Large Band", "Joshua, Judges, Ruth" (who can possibly get past "North Dakota"... somebody stop me!!). Well... this DVD pulls it all together. I'm a huge fan of the other Sound Stage production with it's higher production values, but this encapsulates Lyle at his best... and I love it!! There are a couple of songs missing that would, in my view, finish things totally and that would have been to include from the Live in Texas CD the live versions of "She's No Lady", "M-o-n-e-y" and the irresistable Francine Reed singing "Wild Women Never Get the Blues" she can sing in my band ANYTIME!! She is AWESOME.
If you don't believe me, buy this and check it yourself. Oh... one other thing, Lovett's recent "It's not big it's large" CD is a wonderful return to the Pontiac period, get that one too... go on... treat yourself.

This is just an outstanding video of pre-high definition recordings of Lyle. He and his band do such an outstanding job each and every time they take the stage and this event was no different. Great product.
