A crime committed on the Dixie Chicks Jun 06, 2004
By Jefferson T. Packer I love the Dixie Chicks, and their performances in the concerts that provided footage for this DVD were probably great - but there's no way to tell. From what I can see, this DVD was put together by monkeys who had available an unlimited supply of espresso and cocaine. No shot lasts longer than two seconds, and footage from many different concerts is slammed together pell-mell with no regard for anything like continuity. The camera shots themselves are about as creative as a home movie of a high school football game, and the general feeling I get is that the people who made this didn't really give a damn about the Dixie Chicks, or about anything except slapping this DVD together with nail guns, pressure board, duct tape and fast-drying glue, and then dropping it on store shelves to start the cash hose flowing. The Dixie Chicks deserve much, much better than this, and luckily they get it in "An Evening with the Dixie Chicks," which is the best DVD of their music to date. If you bought this garbage, go exchange it for "An Evening," and you'll be glad you did.

Wonderful Music at an Amazing Price Nov 24, 2003
By WilM.
"'music video fan'"
All throught the year you heard the hype about the chicks.. the media couldn't stop talking about them, they were on everybody's mouths.. why??? Their first headlining tour... the multiplatinum streak continuing with one of the top selling albums of the year... setting concert ticket sales records, and breaking previous records on their first day of ticket sales.... that's why!!! So now, if you were one of the many who couldn't get a ticket before they sold out, or if you were one who loved their live show, a full lenght concert has been released on CD & DVD (separately) for America's listening and watching pleasure. The Chicks surely understand their live shows energy cannot be captured on any media. That's why tickets weren't cheap. But don't be fooled by the LOW price on this DVD... it rocks this country!!! They say actions speak louder than words, but here the music is louder than any comments made about the band during the year. The only thing louder than their music is the tremendous fan energy all throughout the concert. If you like the Chiks music (that's why you're reading this, right?) buy this DVD immediately. At around 10 bucks you get an amazing concert... and an extra video (wow! what a video, better than Cash's Hurt) for Top of the World (the song form Home). The tracklist for this concert includes Goodbye Earl Some Days You Gotta Dance There's Your Trouble Long Tome Gone Tortured, Tangled Hearts Travelin' Soldier Am I the Only One (Who Ever Felt this Way) (on the CD only) Hello Mr. Heartache Cold Day in July White Trash Wedding Lil' Jack Slade A Home Truth No. 2 (on the CD only) If I Fall You're Going Down With Me Mississippi (on the CD Only) Cowboy Take Me Away Godspeed (Sweet Dreams) Landslide Ready To Run Wide Open Spaces Top of the World (live version on CD only, included here as a bonus concept Videoclip) Sin Wagon

EXCELLENT - as usual Nov 22, 2003 It was a great concert in person, and this is a great DVD. Fun editing shows the Chicks in different outfits and hairstyles, all within the same song. Excellent musicianship, great production values, this dvd is for anyone who loves an excellent concert by talented performers. Rock On Chicks!

Would Have Been Five Stars if Produced from One Show Feb 24, 2004
By Birdman I actually enjoyed this generous performance. Like the Chick's previous EVENING WITH THE DIXIE CHICKS, the DVD highlights a lot more than the sex appeal of these three charismatic performers. With a set list culled from each of their three major albums, the show might have been a winner had it actually been the record of one, or even two, shows. Instead, we have a two-hour montage of performances from several shows from the TOP OF THE WORLD tour. The production comes off as more a slick documentary than a compelling, cohesive record of performance. One reason for lobbing off one star is that the editing of these shows, obviously paced to match the rhythm of the music, lurches, cuts and cuts and lurches again. It is some of the most spastic editing of otherwise decent footage I've ever seen in a rock or country video. It actually made me edgy. Having said that, the Dixie Chicks are fabulous at what they do and the disc is a bargain pure and simple. It would be possible to say that Natalie Maines is a force of nature. Her voice and presence are phenomenal. If you love this trio as much as I do, don't let all the critical poo-poo get you down. You WILL enjoy yourselves. Just take a break now and then and keep some club soda close by in case the editing makes you queasy

Great in spite of the warnings here Dec 30, 2005
By Gordon I'm a big Dixie Chicks fan, but was hesitant about buying this DVD because of the warning reviews here. But I went ahead anyway, and have no regrets. The performance quality and crowd electricity are fantastic, and the cutting between different concerts was only a little more frequent than cutting you would see between individual musicians in a recording of a single concert. In fact I found it interesting to see how the Chicks' wardrobes and hair varied from concert to concert. And I think Natalie Maines' voice is great for this kind of music. Most impressive is the band the Chicks put together for these concerts - in addition to Marty and Emily, there is some virtuoso musical talent on display here, most evident in "White Trash Wedding" and "Lil' Jack Slade" where the band can show off. In fact, the band is a major difference between their previous DVD "An Evening with the Dixie Chicks" and this production. Don't get me wrong - the "Evening" band was good, but the "Tour" band is twice the size and really nails the music. Even the Chicks' great vocal quality seems better on the "Tour" DVD, so perhaps the sound system has something to do with it too. Overall, this DVD really captures the spirit of a big concert, and I'm sorry I missed their 2003 tour. My only criticism is that my favorite piece from the CD "Truth No.2" was omitted.
