Though his baritone is one of the brawnier voices in contemporary country, Tracy Byrd is a softie at heart. At least such is the impression left by the Texan's seventh album (and first for RCA), filled with midtempo balladry that showcases his sensitive side. Whether he's testifying to the love that survives a marital split on "Put Your Hand in Mine," reminding himself to stop and smell the roses on the title cut, or celebrating the redemptive support of a good woman on "Proud of Me," Byrd sings with a conviction that makes the most sentimental cliché ring true. The Texas shuffle of "Undo the Right" and the Cajun-spiced "Something to Brag About" (with Wayne Toups on accordion) provide dance-floor-friendly changes of pace. --Don McLeese

5COUNTRY MUSIC THAT SOUNDS COUNTRY  Jan 03, 2000 By Chris Rolen
When you put in "IT'S ABOUT TIME", you don't hear any synthesized drums or screaming electric guitar; common in today's pop-country. What you hear, are 11 EXCELLENT songs, performed by one of the best traditional country singers out there.Leading off the magnificent set, is the flagship; PUT YOUR HAND IN MINE. I have one thing to say about this song.........P-E-R-F-E-C-T. The music...the lyrics( provided, in part, by SKIP EWING)....his voice. NO ONE could perform this song better.EVERY TIME I DO is one of my favorite cuts, from the album. The song, about a man who tries to keep living his life, even though his past keeps coming around, is a potential hit! The writers, Shawn Camp and Taylor Dunn, have a winner on their hands.Tracy also covers 2 songs on the collection. The first, 'LOVE, YOU AIN'T SEEN THE LAST OF ME', was originally recorded by John Schnieder. Tracy pays tribute to the song, instead of trying to better it.The other song, 'UNDO THE RIGHT', is a Willie Nelson classic. Tracy is the 2nd artist I've heard perform this song. If you want to hear aonther good version, pick up WADE HAYES', ON A GOOD NIGHT, album. My favorite cut on the album, and my FAVORITE SONG that Tracy Byrd has EVER done, is "A LITTLE LOVE". YOU HAVE TO HEAR THIS SONG! The writers, Pat Terry and Tia Sillers have delivered the best song in this set. This song has the most rememberable chorus of any, on the album......./ I DON'T HAVE TO HAVE IT ALL, I'M NOT ASKING FOR THE WORLD / I DON'T NEED A STAR TO FALL / I JUST NEED A LITTLE LIGHT / SOMEONE SHINGING IN MY LIFE / CAUSE IN THE DARK, WHEN YOU'RE AFRAID / A LITTLE LOVE CAN GO A LONG, LONG WAY /All in all, IT'S ABOUT TIME is a perfect album. I don't think that I could live without it! If you love TRUE country, BUY THIS ALBUM!

5Excellent Country CD - Tracy's best yet  Nov 05, 1999
Wow! This is an awesome CD! It is a realy country CD without all the pop influence heard in a lot of today's country music. I think it is Tracy Byrd's best yet! It has a great mix of balads and uptempo songs. I think all the songs are wonderful. I'd have to say my favorites are Every Time I Do, Soemthing To Brag About, and Undo the Right, and Can't Have One Without The Other.

Awesome CD that any country music fan should have!

5Byrd returns with a raw and determined sound!  Nov 08, 2001
After five albums on MCA, Byrd decided he needed the creative freedom of a new label. He found RCA and Billy Joe Walker Jr. With all of this shake-up, we knew that something very different would come about. It has to when you have this much new energy and freedom. This album reflects this with a certain raw and determined attitude throughout. Some Byrd fans have found this album right on the mark while others took a while to get adjusted. Either way, the result is the same, we now have another side of Byrd.

The highlights for us are Take Me With You When You Go, Every Time I Do, Love, You Ain't Seen The Last Of Me, Ain't It Just Like A Woman and Proud of Me.

For us, this album marks a new era for Byrd and his fans. He's had this one to make a transition and spread his wings. In our opinion, Byrd is primed to make some of the best music of his life with six solid albums as a foundation.

5Sends chills up my spine  Mar 23, 2000 By Kari
Just to add to the wonderful reviews so far! I have listened to more than enough country by Tracy Byrd to know that this is one of his best albums. It's obvious that much care was taken in picking these songs for him. Each song completely showcases his vocal talents and allows the listener to feel the emotion of the song.

"Take Me With You When You Go" is a great example of the emotion that Tracy Byrd is able to evoke. It has simple but beautiful harmony and his feel for the dynamics coupled with the lyrics is incredible.

A worthwhile purchase that I will listen to for years.
