exceeded expectations Dec 21, 2009

This DVD blew me away. I have every DVD I could ever get my hands on of JOhn denver...and most of the latest ones are poor qulaity rehashes of old stuff. THis has excellent quality for both sound and picture...and Its John at his very best...his voice is strong..the band with him isnt too over produced..... Sometimes concert videos are full of shots of the audience ( ugh that sony one comes to mind) and that is not what I want to see. I want to see the performers....Thats what this DVD gives. Its John and the band having fun...he forgets the words on "dancing with the mountains" and laughs thru it. Seeing Hal Blaine really brings back some memories. All of my expectations were exceeded 10 fold! One of the reasons I bought this was because I saw John on this tour ( not in Japan!), and this recording was just exciting and happy. Its a great samplling of his work. Any one who has this will enjoy it no matter if they are a long time loyal fan like me or just a casual JD listener.

An Unexpectedly Good DVD Dec 16, 2009
By ROCK Insights.com John Denver - Rocky Mountain High Live In Japan For one of the most prolific and successful writers and performers of his time, Denver was an outsider in most musical circles. He was considered too pop by Country fans, too sentimental by Country Rock fans and too wimpy to be taken seriously by Rock fans. But millions of music fans and musicians not hung-up on labels came to appreciate Denver as a great writer and performer. This DVD captures Denver at his peak - and in a setting that really conveys what a compelling artist he was. On a simple, understated stage Denver manages to mesmerize an audience in Japan with songs rooted in a foreign culture and language. The fact that so many in the audience know every song is remarkable. So is his band, which includes the masterful but understated guitarists James Burton and Herb Peterson, drummer Hal Blaine and Jim Horn on saxophone and flute. The audio and video quality of the DVD make this 1981 recording seem much more recent, thanks to outstanding 5:1 surround audio and video restoration. This 18 song performance of most all of his strongest songs gives us a chance to hear and appreciate his strength as a writer and performer and, quite possibly, to to elevate our opinion of Denver's music.

John and Renee Armand! Jun 24, 2010
By LoneZome Traveler This concert was recently broadcast on PBS. As a John Denver fan (and what Baby Boomer isn't?) I certainly enjoyed it. In a lot of live performances it is easy to tell that the artist is bored at having to perform his "classics" yet once again -- not so with John Denver! He sings every song at this concert with love and joy, everything is so fresh. I have most of the songs on this cd on other tapes and cds, so I didn't think about buying it until the camera found Renee Armand. An absolutely gorgeous lady with an astonishing voice. She did "Fly Away" with John, and I was floored. When John introduced her, he said she had the voice of an angel - I certainly agree. So glad to have belatedly discovered her. I only wish she would have been featured a bit more. Watching John perform on a Japanese style set was an unusual and nice touch. Amazon has this cd for about thirteen bucks. I ordered it with some books and chose the "super saver" free shipping option. Everything arrived, as usual, just a few days later. Can't beat the price, can't beat the concert. Don't miss this one.

Bare Bones Concert Nov 10, 2011
By Hoosier Hayseed John Denver is always going to be John Denver - a wonderful talent - but this concert was almost like an amateur high-school performance.
He fumbled around with his guitars between songs, and sort of plodded along, but his performances were just as excellent as always - just without a lot of professionalism in his presentation.
Maybe being in Japan, he hadn't brought along a lot of backup or crew?
