Classic Country Music Mar 25, 2008

"Hamer Dog"
My brother bought several of Chris' early albums on 8-track tape directly from Chris in Fort Worth back in the 70s. We wore them out because we played them constantly. The stories contained in the simple songs paired with his wonderful voice - simply outstanding. Chris just didn't sing country music - he lived it. RIP, Chris.

The cowoby life at its finest May 21, 2007
By joey its great that they are bringing back some of the good stuff. Rusty spurs and born to follow rodeo really can give people who dont know about rodeo an idea about what the life is like. God Bless Chris Ledoux.
Best album by the best country singer ever Mar 24, 2012

Songs of Rodeo and Country was the first album I ever heard by Chris LeDoux and it remains my sentimental favorite. I have it on vinyl, cassette and CD. In fact, I'm having a hard time writing a review (keep erasing and starting over) because this album means so much to me. This is one of those albums that I know every word, I never skip any of the songs, and sit in the van and wait for a song to end before I get out. I first heard the song "Joade the Rodeo Clown" when I was about five. I'm pushing forty and the song STILL gives me a lump in my throat. "The Buckskin Lady" is one of the sweetest songs ever, and yes, it's about a horse. Rodeo, You've Cast a Spell and Mighty Lucky Man are two outstanding Chris-penned originals. Knowing he's singing about his real life is really cool. Real Live Buckaroo might be the creepiest/funniest song Chris ever recorded and Oklahoma Joe is a cautionary tale with an ominous vibe. Several of the songs have some really great harmonica playing, wish the liner notes had some information on the players! Outstanding album by a class-act country/western singer.
