3Disappointed by the sound  May 31, 2011 By Yiwei D.
The finish of Takamine G128S is very beautiful without any noticeable construction defects. The weight is at the heavy side for a guitar, and it means sturdy construction. The orange colored solid spruce top board has a reddish hue (although pictures on Amazon.com and Takamine.com show yellow colored top board), and the chocolate colored laminated rosewood back and sides can't have better colors. If you are buying a guitar as a decoration, this is it, five stars, and you don't need to continue reading this review.

If you are buying a musical instrument, let's continue. The reddish orange color makes the grains of the top board difficult to see clearly. But if you look closer, you'll see most of the grain lines are wavy. The spacing between them varies from 0.5 mm to 2.5 mm. So the quality of the top spruce board is very poor. The top board (also called sound board) is critical for a guitar's sound quality. Takamine should have used a better piece of wood.

Now, let's talk about the playability. The setup of the action makes it very easy to play, but also makes the strings prone to buzzing at many frets when played with a little more force.

At last, sound quality. I like the bright sound of this guitar. But the volume is limited. The sustain is good at low pitch notes but very poor at high notes. The note at the 12th fret on the thinnest string can only last for less than 3 seconds with forceful play (I measured it with my digital watch).

I am still fretful about returning it because I need to pay the relatively high shipping price due to the large package. I should have gone to a guitar store, and searched through their G128S inventory for a top board with straighter and more evenly spaced grains, then played it to check out playability and sound quality.

5the best entry level classical guitar  Mar 05, 2011 By dacast
i searched for over 2 weeks for an entry level classical guitar with a solid wood top at a decent price. it has great sound and projection. the finish is beautiful. it comes with d'Addario pro-arte classical guitar strings. nice wide neck so my fat fingers only touch one string at a time. looks even better than all the pictures you see online.

4Beautiful and great sounding guitar  Feb 05, 2012 By J. Cruz
Hi,
I would give it 5 stars if it wash't because the word "Natural" in the name is misleading. The color of the guitar is not natural. It's tinted with a slight orange color. I've gotten used to it and I like it, but if you are looking for a natural color, this is not your instrument. I'm glad that Amazon changed the picture recently, because this new picture is a lot closer to the exact color (the earlier picture make the guitar look kind of yellow), I think they would do well by removing the word "Natural" too.
Now, the most important: The quality and finish is astonishing for a guitar in this price category. I don't care if this is made in China, the finish and details match those of much, much! more expensive spanish guitars. I didn't find any single blemish.
The sound is absolutely beautiful! Bass sounds are clean (not too loud though), but the sharp sound of strings 1 and 2 specially are absolutely impressive. You pick one of those strings and they resonate for a long, long, time! with clean, loud and bright sounds. My other acoustic guitar has steel strings and every time I grabbed a nylon classical/acoustic guitar I was disappointed with the volume of strings 1-3 , not with this guitar!! The action is OK, not too high or low, no buzzing on any string in any position on the fretboard. And it stays tuned forever compared with other classical guitars that I've tried (even though the strings are still pretty new).
All and all, I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for the best look&sound for the price.

5Amazing guitar!  Apr 25, 2010 By Linda G. Burress "kyleburress"
I had been waiting for a very long time to get this guitar, and after waiting 8 months, all the online guitar stores I had looked at were sold out. So I checked.. and of course, Amazon pulled through for me. It arrived quickly and well packaged, and I couldn't be happier with the sound quality of this beautiful instrument.
